Ingredients

  • 2 slices of bread
  • 2 tablespoons of filling (e.g. Nutella, jam, or cream cheese)
  • 2 cups of milk
  • 5 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup of brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup of flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • Butter or oil for cooking

Instructions

  1. Spread 2 tablespoons of filling on one slice of bread, leaving a 1/2 inch edge all around.
  2. Place the second slice of bread on top and crimp the edges by squeezing your fingers around the edge.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together 2 cups of milk, 5 large eggs, 1/4 cup of brown sugar, 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
  4. Add in 1/2 cup of flour and 1/2 teaspoon of salt, whisking until the mixture is smooth.
  5. Heat a large skillet or electric griddle on low-medium heat and add butter or oil.
  6. Dip each stuffed slice of bread in the mixture, shaking off any excess, and add it to the pan.
  7. Cook the bread for 4-5 minutes on each side until it is crispy and golden brown.
  8. Serve with additional toppings if desired.
