- 2 slices of bread
- 2 tablespoons of filling (e.g. Nutella, jam, or cream cheese)
- 2 cups of milk
- 5 large eggs
- 1/4 cup of brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup of flour
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- Butter or oil for cooking
Instructions
- Spread 2 tablespoons of filling on one slice of bread, leaving a 1/2 inch edge all around.
- Place the second slice of bread on top and crimp the edges by squeezing your fingers around the edge.
- In a large bowl, whisk together 2 cups of milk, 5 large eggs, 1/4 cup of brown sugar, 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
- Add in 1/2 cup of flour and 1/2 teaspoon of salt, whisking until the mixture is smooth.
- Heat a large skillet or electric griddle on low-medium heat and add butter or oil.
- Dip each stuffed slice of bread in the mixture, shaking off any excess, and add it to the pan.
- Cook the bread for 4-5 minutes on each side until it is crispy and golden brown.
- Serve with additional toppings if desired.
