Ingredients
120 grams (or 1 cup) of shredded cheddar cheese
¼ cup (or 57 grams) of butter, cubed
2.25 cups (or 270 grams) of all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon of baking powder
1 teaspoon of salt
½ teaspoon of garlic powder
¼ teaspoon of paprika
½ cup (or 120 milliliters) of cold buttermilk
1 large egg
¼ cup (or 57 grams) of butter, melted (for the butter spread)
2 tablespoons of minced parsley
¼ teaspoon of garlic powder (for the butter spread)
Flaked sea salt (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425 Fahrenheit (220 Celsius).
- Shred the cheddar cheese and set aside.
- Cube the butter and keep it cold until needed.
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, and paprika.
- Add the cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Use your fingers or a pastry blender to work the butter into the flour until it reaches a pea-sized consistency.
- Add the shredded cheese to the mixture, ensuring it is well-distributed throughout.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the cold buttermilk and the egg.
- Gradually add the buttermilk and egg mixture to the flour and cheese mixture, stirring as you go until a shaggy dough forms.
- Scoop the dough in quarter cup portions onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing each biscuit about two inches apart.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 17 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden and puffed up.
- While the biscuits are baking, prepare the butter spread by combining the melted butter, minced parsley, and garlic powder.
- Once the biscuits are done, remove them from the oven and brush them generously with the butter spread.
- Finish with a sprinkle of flaked sea salt on each biscuit.
